A HISTORY OF A NECKTIE
What's the first thing you imagine in your head, the moment you hear the word “business suit”? What is the key element? For us it's the tie. Simple, elegant yet an essential point. Have you ever thought what is the history of a tie? What made people embrace it into their business looks? Let ARBER CANADA share an interesting chapter of the fashion history with you.
What was in the beginning
It all starts in France. In the history period of 30 Years War in the 17th century when the Croats were sent to help the French army. The Croats had a special scarf in the uniforms, which helped them secure the military jacket. The French monarch Louis XIV, admired the tiny, decorative yet practical detail and brought it into the French fashion industry, naming it “La Cravatte” to underline the influence of the Hravats (their name back then). Overtime, the trend spread around Europe and developed from more like a bow manner, to the modern day necktie.
In the 18th century, the leather material was used in clothing, to protect the neck area from swords in duels. Later, it was replaced with muslin, tied in the back for more aesthetic purposes. Sooner, silk entered the game symbolizing luxury and status with the cloth in the front. Starting with the 19th century till nowadays, people often wear neckties for work and important events to make an impression of a responsible, respected persona.
How to include a necktie in your wardrobe
Want to purchase a necktie but don't know how to put it on? Don`t worry, ARBER CANADA is here to teach you! Here are a few easy steps:
Step 1: Position the Tie Around Your Neck
Place the tie around your neck with the wider end on the right side and the narrow end on the left. The wide end should hang lower than the narrow end by about 12 inches.
Step 2: Cross the Wide End Over the Narrow End
Take the wide end and cross it over the narrow end. Hold them in place.
Step 3: Bring the Wide End Under the Narrow End
Now, pass the wide end under the narrow end and pull it to the right side.
Step 4: Bring the Wide End Over the Narrow End Again
Bring the wide end across the front of the tie, from right to left.
Step 5: Slide the Wide End Up Through the Neck Loop
Lift the wide end up and pass it under the loop around your neck.
Step 6: Pull the Wide End Down Through the Front Loop
Take the wide end and pull it down through the loop that’s in the front of the tie.
Step 7: Tighten the Knot
Hold the narrow end of the tie and gently slide the knot up toward your collar. Adjust it until it’s snug and centered.
Step 8: Adjust the Length
Make sure the tip of the wide end reaches your belt buckle, and the narrow end is hidden behind the wide end. Adjust as needed.
